Draft at Oldspeak. Pale, clear amber pour, fine off-white head. Malty aroma, notes of tea. Taste is malty, citrusy, toasty, tannic. Small bitter bite at the finish.

a quality english pale ale here, done in collaboration with bear island. i have not had enough alliteration beers yet, this is very good, ill change that soon, got to check out their new taproom! this is malty but dry, flavorful but also very light to drink, modestly hoppy, relatively traditional, and the quality is there. this is a style you dont see around these parts very much, so a welcome sight to see. its sort of medium copper colored, pretty clear, and very lively from the tap, holding nearly an inch of white bubbles and super excited on the palate as i drink it. the nose is subtle, english crystal malt character, fresh to me, with an herbaceous hop complexion and seemingly pretty low bitterness. the yeast is relaxed but appropriate, and the ferment is nice and dry right away, less of the caramel character i often expect from these grains, instead its toasty and nutty, maybe more of a warm weather take on the style, and thats the case with the flavor too, its so dry and quick finishing it almost seems lagered, which makes it snappy and thirst quenching, uncommon for an english pale, real nice. a honey nut cheerio thing, still with some structure, brassy minerality, and fresh hoppy second half but restrained bitterness. a little different proportions than we usually see in this style, but a nice use of the ingredients and i think a lovely recipe overall, a true pint beer with a nice low alcohol content and plenty of flavor and balance. very well done.
