From the Carwyn Cellars "One" subscription pack December 2022. Drunk in July 2023.
L: Indistinguishable from a strawberry smoothie, down to the gobs of fruit suspended in the beer. It looks thick and syrupy, with no carbonation visible, but a thick-looking, though thin, head sits atop the glass. It doesn't look like a beer but it's pretty nonetheless.
S: Sherbety, spritzy blackcurrant and strawberry with a mild tart, vinous tang. Again, nothing like a beer, but impressive nonetheless.
T: The can says blackberry, blackcurrant, white nectarine and white grape, and I've gotta say, they're all there. The tartness is sharp, but at the same time there's a creaminess to the beer, and it's a strange but compelling partnership. That tartness lingers and the mouth is left salivating and ready for another gulp. That said, the tart creaminess gets a little fatiguing after half the can, and I doubt I'd have a second one of these in me.
M: Soft, silky, thick and luxurious. 4.5
O: I went into this preparing to be disappointed, like I am with most sours, but this one was intriguing with its sweet, tart, creamy fruitiness. My knock on it is it's just too much. I said earlier it would be a struggle to drink another one, but in the end, I had to force myself to finish one can, as the richness of the drink became overwhelming. That said, my wife, who thinks beer is disgusting, shared a third of this can with me and she thought it was delicious. If this beer is the gateway to her developing, if not a taste for, then at least removing her disgust of, beer, then that's a good thing!
Cheers!
