A Single Hop DIPA made with our Whānau at Freestyle Hops and Phantasm NZ. Championing the cone of choice here at One Drop - Nelson Sauvin- here we've used Freestyle Early harvest Nelson Sauvin, Sunshine Valley low-temp kilned Nelson, and Nelson SubZero Hop Kief™ extract to capture all that gooey grape and citrus intensity Nelson gives. Also, with the power of beer & friendship, we were able to supercharge this DIPA by utilising a thiol-activate yeast strain in conjunction with an Australian exclusive shipment of thiol-precursor-infused Super Sauvin™, a blend of fresh Nelson Sauvin and Phantasm, direct from NZ. Tu Meke!

A Christmas present in 2023, drunk in January 2024.
L: Murky yet bright neon yellow with a bright white, fluffy head. Lots of fast-moving bubbles in the stem of the IPA glass.
S: Papaya jumps out of the glass, but it's a weird smell, like the papaya is melted candy, and the wrapping has been singed and shrivelled. I'm not sure it's something I want to smell in my beer.
T: The taste is also hard to put my finger on. It's grapey and winey and has papaya and tropical notes but is also overlain by an artificial, almost musky, candy layer that finishes very tangy and sherbety and also seems a little too much on the "what the hell am I drinking" scale to be enjoyable.
M: The mouthfeel is smooth and full, like a good hazy should be.
O: This one is more like something from a candy bar than a brewery, with that musk-stick-like note wiping out the positive vibes from the grape and papaya. This beer leaves me nonplussed about the flavour profile, and I don't want to have to think that hard about the beer I'm drinking!
Cheers!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
