Garden Party Lager was originally released as part of Free State Brewing Co.’s seasonal Front Porch Series in July 2015, but this year it graduated to its own standalone release. Garden Party is a refreshing beer brewed with cucumber sourced from Kansas farms, as well as basil and juniper berries, all of which were added during the conditioning process. The result is a highly aromatic, herbaceous beer with cucumber-juniper flavors evocative of gin.

As I've said many times before, cucumbers do NOT belong in beer. And I ain't too fond of basil, neither. It's got good mouthfeel and as advertised flavors but it's marinade to me, your mileage may vary.

Pours a straw color with a small head that disappears quickly. Smells slight sweet and malty. Lots of flavors, cucumber, basil, and fruit. I tried to not rate this to low. The flavors don't work well for me but they seem well balanced and I'm sure lots of people will like this

Pours translucent until a slight fog appears after the last couple ounces. It's yellow-orange with a finger of white, fizzy, foam. Head retention is okay. Aroma is lavender, coriander, pilsner malts, and herbal, spicy hops. Flavor profile is coriander and lavender. Herbal and spicy hops add to the garden party, outdoorsy taste. Pilsner malts round it out. Mouth feel is heavy on effervescence, but lands on crisp. It has a thin consistency. Overall, very outdoorsy, with garden herb notes.
Served in a 12oz snifter from a 12oz bottle.

Pours a golden blonde color with a wispy head of 1 finger, leaving a thin layer of moss on the top.
Smells of cool cucumber, spices, coriander, open faced green bell pepper.
Nice beery lager flavor right off the bat, with golden malts and cracker, followed by a snap of juniper and a total fresh wash of basil and cilantro. It's like I just flossed with herbs. Nice hot herbal flavor.
Feel is crisp and light. Just as it should be. Very refreshing, and extra refreshing with the herbs.
Overall, this is the beer equivilant of having a mint leaf in your iced tea. It's very refreshing, very quenching, and quite unique. I love Free State's thinking outside of the box on this one.

This is a super refreshing summer lager with cucumber, basil, and juniper berries. The adjuncts are very harmonious and well melded with the base lager.
Pale saturated orange, a finger of momentary foam and spotty lace.
Sweet herbacous basil scent, crackery pilsner malt.
Gin-like botanicals, juniper berries and sweet basil and cucumber. Light easygoing base lager, dry clean finish with no lingering aftertaste. Smooth light carbonation, with a pleasant crispness.
Overall this is an utterly sessionable beer, especally if you like Hendricks like I do. Great summer refresher.

Not a bad beer overall. Color is a light to medium golden. Smell is that of lager laced with cucumber, with a bit of juniper. Taste is predominately cucumber. Very cool and refreshing. Quite light, as well. Pleasant aftertaste.
Truth is, this is a great beer for the hot dog days of summer. However, I blindly bought this beer in late September. I've had several from the six-pack. As i review this, however, I am sitting in Iowa, where it is 25 degrees and snowing. A stout might have been a better choice. In the right setting, such as a warm summer night after mowing the yard, this would be great, refreshing, and just what the doctor ordered.

Definitely one of the more interesting beers I have had. Picked it up in the singles section in a mix a six. A refreshing lighter lager with a noticeably cucumber, earthy flavor that is very prominent. It almost has a cooling effect to the aftertaste. I like this beer a lot. Even though it is light, I don't think I would drink more than one in a sitting because as good as the first bottle was, the flavor might get grating for me after that.
