This Bohemian Pilsner takes its name from the beautifully filmed 1972 Black and White classic, Paper Moon. The film starred the precocious Tatum O’Neal and her father Ryan. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance at the young age of 10 years old. Scenes of the film were filmed at the Historic Midland Hotel and Wilson State Bank Building in Wilson, Kansas. Otherwise known as the Czech Capital of Kansas, Wilson saw large numbers of immigrants from Czechoslovakia in the 1870's who came to work on the railroad. It’s conceivable that those workers would have consumed a brew similar to that of this Bohemian Pilsner, a style that originated in Pilsen, Czechoslovakia and gave birth to the world’s most popular beer style. This lager was brewed with ample quantities of Czech Saaz hops to counterbalance the golden pilsner malt. Dry-hopped with these same hops, Paper Moon Pils is a clean, medium bodied and dry lager with a nice hoppy finish.

Looks like clear honey with a frothyy cap. Smells a bit yeasty, sulphury, and herbal. Taste is surprisingly big (for the style) and has a pronounced hop finish. Cracker-like malts start off, lending to a clean mid-palat. Hops come at end in a nice, pronounced way. Very tasty. Fairly full body, which might almost be too big for style, but I like it.

Poured into a 14 oz Pub glass from the tap.

Clear golden color, almost like a wheat beer like a krystalweizen. Huge 3 finger white frothy head.

Smells a little like wheat, with some beautiful Pils Malt and Saaz hops. A slightly resiny smell. Still very clean smelling.

The taste was very wonderful - very creamy, frothy, clean, and sweet. A really great brew from Free State.

Mouthfeel is very nice and creamy, and drinkability is superb.
