Melrose – from Lolev Brewing. Single 16 oz can. In reefer at Franklin Beer, Franklin, PA. Acquired 22/09/23, $ 3.50 (Including tax), $ 0.219/fl oz. Reviewed 02/10/23 (Review 3162). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Bottom of can stamped “CANNED ON 03/23/23 14:22”. Stored at 34 degrees at home. Served at 54.6 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 55.9 degrees F.
Appearance – 3.
First pour – Medium Amber (SRM 12), hazy.
Body – Amber Brown (SRM 18), muddy. Under direct light. When rear-lite, hazy amber light passes through, well past the edges but fails to penetrate the middle.
Head: Large (Maximum 5.3 cm, aggressive center pour), almond, high density. Rapidly reduces, leaving a 3 - 6 mm frothy crown and spotty cap.
Lacing – None.
Aroma – 3 – Light malt, no smoke. No hops, no yeast. No ethanol (6 % ABV according to the label).
Flavor – 3 – Essentially following the nose. No hops, no yeast. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Perhaps a bit of smoke on the tongue, but so weak I’m not sure. Ends slightly sour.
Palate – 3.5 – Medium; heading toward syrupy; weak carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.25 Meh.
