Consumed March 3rd, 2010 at the brewery.
Served with a wedge of lemon (quickly removed by the drinker, of course), this is a cloudy light banana color with a slight skin of white foam.
Aroma of banana and lemon (from the offending wedge?).
Flavors of wheat (an agreeable metallic tang), banana and clove. Slightly bitter on finish. The flavor profile tells me this is not an American pale wheat ale, but an attempt at the Bavarian style.
Mouthfeel is unremarkable save for a slight thinness.
Compared to the laughably unflavorful "hefes" turned out by many brewpubs, this one deserves a little respect for actually being drinkable. I can see the refreshment factor of this beer going up along with the mercury in the thermometer. German breweries, however, have nothing to worry about from Orange County.

Sampled on Friday (10/2/09)
Everything about this beer is meh. I knew I was in for a treat when the bartender put the sampler tray down in front me and I noticed that it was spelled "Hefenweizen", hmm. It was spelled correctly on the board however so I won't have to stoop so low as to title this beer Hefenweizen.
Hazy, yellow, decent head but it doesnt last.
Aroma is wheaty and sour. I pulled the lemon from the edge of the glass as soon as the bartender put it there but it may be affecting the qualities of the beer.
Flavor is a bit sour from the wheat. Tastes like a typical American attempt at a hefeweizen. Low bitterness and low enjoyability. But I guess there are those that like this sort of thing (Widmer).
