Double dry-hopped Melrose is a full-blown West Coast-style India pale ale chocked full of sticky hop resins. Brewed with American 2-row malt and a touch of Canadian “honey” malt, Melrose is generously hopped with Simcoe and Amarillo varieties. We then liberally double dry hop the beer for an over the top aromatic experience with notes of citrus rind, tropical fruits, and pine resin.

glad to see these guys back around here on tap so much for gabf, i love their beer, especially the wild stuff, but its rad to have some clean ones around too! i have had the regular melrose before and been very impressed with it, so cool to see this unique double dry hop edition, done with simcoe and amarillo. the first thing of interest here is how clear it is, a golden honey color, but bright clarity, not usually the case with a big dry hop, and that stands out right away to me. the nose is nice, i often think of simcoe as being more robust than amarillo, and thus more likely to be obvious and in front, but that doesnt appear to be the case when i smell it, and its true in the flavor too that the amarillo is out in front of the simcoe, a cool proportion of each though, unique somehow in this relationship, i really dig that. its a detail, but an important one. the beer has a little more heaviness to it than i recall from the original, but it has been awhile. its oily and slick feeling, even a little sticky, but it isnt sweet at all. the hops add a ton to the mouthfeel, and this drinks sturdy for sure, especially when it warms up. i get some trace alcohol here too, which i wouldnt expect at this strength but there it is anyway. relaxed carbonation, vegetal green freshness from the hops, and a cool marriage between the simcoe and the amarillo. great beer.

Clear amber brew with foam swirling in the big New Belgium snifter. Pleasing sudsy mouthfeel. Melon and citrus aroma. Grapefruit peel taste with an interesting orangey, resiny tang. Green melon flavor but overall it's kind of harsh, actually.
Some malty sweetness but it gets on the astringent side, with hints of something burnt. Rather bitter aftertaste. Wonderful taste at first sip but it it pretty tough sledding. This is one for the slave to the Hop Goddess. From the 16 oz can purchased at Bottlecraft in Liberty Station.

A: Hoppy with aromas of pine, resin, dank and light tropical notes.
A: Light gold color, clear, with a fine, uniform white head that has decent retention and light lacing in the glass.
T: Hoppy upfront with notes of pine, resin, lightly dank with tropical notes, light malt sweetness, and a moderate hop bitterness.
M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
O: Solid; while the beer is tasty, I prefer the regular Melrose to this offering. Reason being is that this beer has a
bit of astringency from the hops that's noticeable on the finish.

Pours deep gold, perfectly clear, with a substantial and foamy white head that lingers and laces well. Smells resinous and piney out the gate followed by grapefruit, melon, and a little bit of passion fruit as well. Signature Amarillo and Simcoe. Flavor follows and is exactly what we've come to love as Beachwood fans. Plenty of fruit and pine competing for palate dominance! A nice amount of sweetness ties this all together, but is clearly favoring that classic "West Coast" bitter IPA. Finishes dry and is well carbonated. Overall, another winner. Will definitely seeking out another bottle or ten. Cheers!
