A Christmas beer from 2023 that was drunk in June 2024.
L: Almost the archetypal beer: amber and crystal clear, with big bubbles rushing up the glass. Unfortunately, there's no head to speak of, so it loses points for that.
S: The slightest hint of something fruity and hoppy, but otherwise, no malt body or stand-out aromas are detectable.
T: There's more fruitiness than was evident in the nose, particularly retronasally (which is ironic), but also an earthy burnt malt note that clashes with that fruitiness. While it didn't sit well, it did cause me to take multiple sips to try to work out what I was tasting.
M: Full and soft, with medium carbonation but quite a high carbonic bite, which is another example of this beer being a little schizophrenic for my tastes.
O: This is a weirdly complex beer that pushes and pulls in different directions in the same mouthful but doesn't do either one well enough to pull it off.
Cheers!

"Hawke's Patio Pale" 375ml yellow pull-tab can. 4.5% ABV.
Nabbed at Bottle Mart, Port Douglas, Australia.
Pilsner malt. Thin, with a bit of metallic off-flavour. Borders on watery. 2-row. The can indicates it's a tropical pale, but there's barely any tropical character hopwise here save for underripe mango.
Not a great pale ale nor a well balanced brew by any stretch, but it's drinkable in the Queensland heat.
I can't say I'd buy it again...I think it was ~$6.80 AUD for a single, which is a bit dear given the absence of quality.
High D+ / NOT RECOMMENDED
