On-draught as a guest draught at Ballistic Brewing Cannonvale. Coffee porter. ABV unknown.
A simultaneously basic and classic coffee porter, the sort of beer I'd expect to have at a Colorado brewpub with 6 taps in 2006. Muted but present coffee with a kiss of earthy bitterness. Cacao nib redolent chocolate malt. Maybe a hint of roast, but I don't know that it parses as Carafa.
Balanced but basic, sippable but simple, a no frills coffee porter that'll scratch that itch but won't relieve it. Needs to go bigger on the coffee and malt, with commitment to better ingredients. Ain't no discerning drinker sipping this and thinking they used single origin from Java or specialty roast malt from Weyermann...this is a few notches up from Folger's homebrew and there's nothing wrong with that, but let's improve, aye?
