Served on-tap in a plain pint glass at BAR in New Haven, Conn.
A: Poured a dark yellow, orange tinted amber color with a thin head of sudsy white foam and a good deal of carbonation. Went a bit flat after a few minutes, and lacing was nil as a result.
S: Smells a little citrusy with toasted malt and grain aromas mixed with a bit of the 'ol spice rack; coriander, cinnamon, ginger, clove, etc.
T: Taste emulates the aroma pretty accurately. The malts are semisweet and full at first, then a bit of that drying hop profile and full, sweet citrus fruit flavor takes over. The spiciness of the brew is nicely elevated to a level of recognition and retention. A good hefe flavor with a distinct American twist.
M: Medium to full bodied but still very easy drinking, and one to be sessioned for sure.
D: This was quite tasty on its own, but paired very nicely with our mashed potato and bacon pie. Very good hefe characteristics while staying nice and sessionable as a summer ale.

I have had this before, years ago on my last visit to New Haven and I recall this being a damn good Hefe. But after tasting this last week, I can't say that this elevates over any average brewpub Hefe. Maybe the aromas are slightly better than average, but nothing else in thsi beer excited me. My girlfriend, who is an avid non-beer drinker, seemed to like it enough to get a second.

I had this not too long ago at Bar. Not so great a hefeweizen. The beer poured a nice yellow gold color with a nice white head. It smelled pretty good with a mostly fruity and malty aroma. The taste was the same, pretty good, but not great for this kind of beer. It was a bit tart and bland. I did not taste the fruity yeasts that are associated with this kind of beer, it was more malty than anything else. The flavors did not come out in the taste the way they did in the aroma. The mouthfeel was good and smooth like all of their beers, but I don't think I would drink more than one of these.

Had this fairly new offering last night; apparently named after the doctoral students that work in the brewery. Served in the correct tall weizen glass. Much darker in color than I'd expect for a hefeweizen; looked more like a dunkel. Pleasant yeasty aroma, a little fruity. Taste is typical hefeweizen, with subtle hints of banana and citrus. This was a very easy drinking beer; the folks at Bar have done a great job recreating one of my favorite styles.
