Grabbed this brew with dinner tonite. The brew came in a pint glass. Small layer of white creamy head present. This dissipates to a thin layer across the surface. Malty caramel aromas dominate, maybe even caramelized sugar. No spices that I kinda expected. First sip reveals mild carbonation and medium body. There is actually a slightly creamy texture in this brew. The flavor is all malt with the caramel flavors up front fading to a chocolate in the middle that carries through the finish. This makes the ber slightly sweet although there is a mild bite of hop bitterness after I swallow.
This is a very drinkable brew and it also went well with my chicken and broccoli pizza. Very smooth and a good winter brew. Hope some others try this so that the Bunghammer can come online!

Chestnut colored with a biege, foamy head that slowly recedes, leaving oily, chunky webs of lace around the glass, and a few rings as I drink. Aroma is low, but malty with some bready and oaty notes. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. Flavor is of rich roasted malt, with hints of caramel and mocha. Low hop profile. The finish is tingly and crisp, and is followed by a lingering cocoa flavor.

I had a pint of this after a dissapointing Pale Ale. I was not hopeful at first when I got the pint with a minimal head that dissapeared after 30 seconds. Again, the nose was off - like a damp wet sock - no burst of rich spices or herbal hops. I forged on though to get past those shorfalls and realy enjoyed the beer. It had an earthy, woodsy flavor up front with tastes of nutmeg and pepper. The mouthfeel was rich and bordered on syrupy in a nice way without any syrupy sweetness. The initial spiced flavors faded away into a warm chocolate flavor that lasted a long while and was nicely balanced with a very mild dry hop taste. It was a good finish that made me want to wait to have another drink to go through the whole taste spectrum again.

Too bad about the nose, or this beer would be worth a short trip to New Haven to enjoy the Kringle Nitecap
