On-tap at the brewpub into a shaker pint.

A: Clear, beautiful ruby-brown body underneath a finger of coarse, fleeting tan foam. Not much lace.

S: Hard to get any aroma at all from the shaker pint - definitely some caramel malt and a touch of smoke.

T: Nice moderate smoke right up front is soon joined by BAR's distinctive malt sweetness - the smoke never goes away, though, and the finish is a nice mixture of smoke, malt, and understated hops. Quite tasty.

M: Smooth medium body with plenty of soft carbonation. Extremely pleasant.

D: Nice balance of flavor with nothing over-asserting itself. Quite easy-drinking.

Notes: Nothing off the charts, but definitely another solid seasonal. Give it a shot if you're here when it's available.

Fortunate to experience this on cask at our recent breweriana collectors show last month, and very glad I had the chance. It showed a hazy rusty brown color with a nice tan head and modest lace. The aroma is sour mash malt and brown sugar. Very solid and tempting but not real heavy at all. The flavor brings a sourdough malt and brown sugar blend, not far off from the aroma. There's plenty of dry grainy hop to finish this nice brew, a great mix that is extremely drinkable for the style. A bit on the thin side with modest carbonation as one often gets with a cask offering. A very tasteful and sessionable offering with malt and hops a plenty. Nice.

I had out of a gravity dispense cask at d.b.a. in Williamsburg, Brooklyn at a cask ale festival. It's got a firm brown color with a nice foamy head that leaves some good lacing. Has a smokey scent to it.

Like the scent, it has a distinct smoked-malt taste to it mixed with some chocolate sweetness.

The description read as follows: "Smooth and easy-drinking ale brewed with a proportion of peat smoked malt. A new brew from brewmaster Jeff Browning at his Connecticut brewpub."
