Served on-tap in a half-pint glass at BAR in New Haven. Conn.
A: Poured a deep, ruddy brownish amber color with ruby highlights showing in the light. The half-finger head of dense, white foam leaves little carbonation to the eye and barely any lacing.
S: Smells uber-sweet and bready, with hints of black pepper and various dark, red fruits. A bit of spicy, floral hops hits the otherwise dank nose as well.
T: Tastes sweet and bready at first, with a sturdy caramel malt backbone and a little wheat husk to back it up. A fairly tasty, deeper roasted APA giving off floral, fruity ale tones with a robust enough, roasty malt profile to satisfy.
M: Mouthfeel is medium-heavy bodied but very quaffable with limited carbonation interruption and a smooth, streamlined balance in flavor.
D: Although the ABV reaches in upwards of 7.5% ABV, its a very decent, mid-range APA with a tad extra kick to go along with the refined selection of malts chosen for this jacked up version of a BAR classic. I would enjoy a pint or more on a chilly Nov. or April night.
