On tap at the brewpub, served in a shaker pint. This one was described to me as a Wheat Stout, so let's see what happens.
A: Black body with red highlights, gleaming underneath a finger of ultra-fine, tan foam. Tons of sticky lace. Yup, they put this one on nitro, and it shows.
S: Well, what can I say? It smells like a BAR beer: generic sweet malt with a hint of cooked-corn DMS, and some buttery diacetyl for good measure. I actually kind of enjoy these particular off notes (especially in their pale, year-round beers) in the way the confer the house style, but they certainly don't make for a good aroma for a stout.
T: Caramel, butterscotch (emphasis on butter), and coffee. The coffee really takes over the finish in a lovely way, but overall it's nothing special.
M: Smooth, thin, and bubbly. Not great for the style or the delivery method.
O: I was really hoping for a rare winner of a BAR seasonal (e.g. Chocolate Porter, Damn Good Espresso Stout), but this is just about as mediocre as they come. Like I said, I really don't dislike the beer's obvious flaws, but I just can't get excited about it because of them. At least the coffee undertones gave it a bit of personality.
Cheers!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
