Bodalla is nestled slightly inland from the southern New South Wales coastline. Its main claim to fame is that it sits astride the Princes Highway, the road that circumnavigates this huge continent, and a reasonably famous brand of cheese. But I'll let you in on a secret. It is home to a fantastic little brewery, inconspicuously producing clean, crisp and flavourful beers behind a rather incongruous front entrance. Looks can be deceiving, however, and this place punches well above its weight with the quality of beer it produces. This is what Bodalla should be famous for!
The brewery itself is a colourbond corrugated, solar panel bedecked shed, a green and shady outdoor area away from the building that hosts the kitchen.
On tap the day I was there were seven beers, including the wildly uncool Brut IPA style, a Kolsch and, as per my review, one of the best mid-strength beers I've ever had. The kitchen serves mini pizzas - I had the pepperoni and it was great - and chips and calamari.
To top it all off, I spoke to the brewer who was happy to geek out on beer with me for 15 minutes in his busy day. If I wasn't driving I would have dived far deeper into the taplist, but alas my civic duty of not driving drunk overrode my desire to spend more time here.
This is a great spot, and you should absolutely visit if you're in the area.
Cheers!
