Broulee Brewhouse is situated on the New South Wales south coast, across the road from Broulee Beach, in a small strip of shops. The signs on most of the local carparks saying "parking not for brewery customers" testifies that this is the dominant business in the area.
The brewery, crushingly busy in summer months, is housed in a modern-looking, clean and colourful colourbond-clad building, with a small kitchen to one side and a similarly crowded beer garden offering shaded or sunny spots at the front. The small bar shields a handful of harried-looking staff dealing with the at-times out-of-the-building line of customers waiting to order. That quite a bit of my beer was spilled as it was placed in front of me at the bar bears testament to the harried busyness of the staff. There were eight beers on tap the day I was there, ranging from the now ubiquitous 3.5% hazy mid, up to a 6.4% IPA.
There is a kitchen, whose fare I didn't sample on the day I visited, but whose popularity is undeniable based on the level of activity in there. I am leaving the food unrated and will update if and when I eat here.
The beers are good - as fresh-at-the-source beers should be - and the variety is solid for a brewery in a small coastal town.
The one slight knock, apart from the crowded nature of the place the day I was there, is the cars parked a couple of metres from the front-most seating in the beer garden. This is likely a minor quibble as they are quickly forgotten once the beer is poured and the conversation flows, but it goes to the heart of some of my earlier comments - this place has long outgrown its location.
Cheers!
