German pilsner hopped with Hallertau.
5.2% ABV.
Crisp and clean drinking with a bit of dryness on the finish. Well attenuated. I doubt multi decoction mashing was used.
Grassy hop profile. Pilsner malt base. Could taste fresher and more full flavoured.
Light bodied. A bit too dry to be refreshing. Well carbonated. Smooth.
No off flavours.
Nothing wrong with it, but it doesn't dazzle compared to German brewed expressions of the style (or the few top tier American stabs at the style there are). It's not overhopped like many breweries' attempts, and seems to have tradition definitely in mind, but it's just not incredible despite obvious promise.
The brewery is only 10 months old and this is a better pilsner than most I've tried in Australia, so I have high hopes we'll see Brightstar come into their own in future years.
