From a growler, filled at the brewery, about 3 hrs ago.
Murky deep chestnut-brown, with 1/2 finger of tan head. Not sure of intent, but has the middling murkiness of some NEIPAs .( 'bout halfway between the Sip/Heady types, & the Treehouse-juice types)
Smell is slightly fruity (mixed citrus +pineapple) , followed by some cocoa, woody, char, & earthy aromas, as the head fades. Somewhere in the Bock to Dry Irish Stout realm, with very brief occasional flashes of the fruity elements. The fruity part remains the dominant aroma from the open growler.
Taste is light grapefruit, then cocoa, then kiwi, grape, mango, then woody, nutty char, finishing with a light orange rind/pineapple/melon flavor. Sounds strange, and not like any black IPA I've had [5 or 6?] , but .....I like it! :) Light bitterness.
Feel is light-medium, with light, very, very fine carbonation tingle. There is a brief instant when it feels a bit watery, & I wish for more body & carbonation. Minor point, but as you [BA] asked..... ;)
Overall, enjoyable, & easy-drinking. A bit odd at first, but I easily got used to it, &..... if I wanted cookie-cutter brews, I'd just stick to the grocery store, lowest-common-denominator, same-ol-same-ol. [A: NO! :P ]
Good work, Crooked Mouth! :)
