Poured from a can filled at the brewery about 4 hrs ago.
Almost-clear amber, with light off-white head.
Smell is light (too cold?) cooked multi-grain cereal, iced tea, a bit of molasses, and a vague herbal aroma.
Taste is pretty much same as aroma, with the faint iced tea and herbal flavors lingering after finish. Light bitterness.
Feel is light-medium, with light, fine carbonation tingle on the latter half. Drying finish.
I have only 2 other California Commons under my belt, so little to compare this to, but given its resemblance to Anchor Steam, I'd say this is spot-on. The differences here, is that it is a bit lighter and drier, with the separate flavor elements a bit more distinct. In this, it compares favorably. It's what I imagine a fresh-from-the-tank A.S. was like at the brewery . Well-done! :)
