Canned about 2 hrs ago. Sitting out @~50F since I brought it home.
Dark mahogany-brown, with just under one finger of tan head, that leaves a thin ring, and a few spots of lacing.
Smell is mostly malted milk ball, with occasional flashes of char and nuts.
Taste is cola, light coffee, light char, with a little cocoa at finish. A tiny bit of sweetness comes through just before finish. Light lingering bitterness. Not as dry as a Dry Irish Stout, but not sweet either.
Feel is medium, with barely-there creaminess , followed by moderate, very, very fine, increasingly-sharp carbonation bite. Slight bite at the back of the throat, but this is very fresh, so expect that will fade soon.
Overall, very nice, more-or-less basic stout. A simple thing, well-done, is a pleasure. The brewer expressed a wish that the vanilla had come through more, but I think it's just right as-is. Can sort of sense it, & it alters the whole, but it's not obvious. Very well balanced. Hope this one becomes a regular thing.
