a wheat beer base, but far from a normal wheat brew, this is actually rested on hot tamale candies, so weird, and the second beer made with candy we had while we were in, along with the circus peanuts, these guys are getting way out there. everything about this sounded gross to me, so i surprised myself when i liked it so well. its definitely weird, but its cool! artificial red color, very light looking, but like the candies dissolved in the beer, that red 40 coloring plastic thing, but diluted a little pink by the beer, high shine and even decent clarity and low viscosity for a wheat, must be awfully light beer on its own, some white foam on top, looks decent, strange as it is, festive for the holidays maybe? the nose and taste of this are more cinnamon candy than beer, but i get that forced cinnamon heat, the sweet gummy base of the candy, and the residual sugar of course, some refermentation of that to dry it out would be cooler, it works more like back sweetening here, and makes this too sugary to drink much of, but the flavor of the candy is very authentic of course, and its not gross in this beer despite the odds. not sure i taste much beer under the candy, but i like what i taste, the yeast seems clean, the wheat gives it just a little body so its not like fruit punch or anything, and the carbonation is necessarily uplifting. never had anything like this, even other candy beers, truly strange, but also i found myself slurping it back and enjoying it. part of its beauty i think its how true the candy comes through and how clean and minimal the base beer is, so the whole thing stays light. neat effort, one of a kind.
