12 oz can Poured on a Pint Glass:

LOOK: Light yellow 1/2 in head lasted 25 seconds before dissolving.

SMELL: Malty

TASTE: Light malt very weak

FEEL: Very weak carbonation

OVERALL: If Starbase Brewing goal was to make a carbon copy of a weak Mexican beer than I guess it was achieved. Very weak beer. It seems whomever brewed this beer only tasted Corona as their sole Mexican beer style which is a shame because Mexico has great tasting beers. For those that like light beers than it might be of your preference.

My second offering from Starbase, but the first one I really get to review...

My local Publix is carrying 6ers of their mainstays and I've been picking them up as I go. This one, the Luck Launch Day Lager is pretty solid. Decent looking beer with a muted scent and it comes with a crisp, liight-bodied mouthfeel. The taste is muted for a lager - not the everyday kinda flavor, unique enough to be it's own. I'm good with this and will look forward to their other brews...

From a can. Pale orange color with foamy cream head. Grassy aroma. Light body with prickly carbonation. Grassy malt flavor with a peppery hop finish. Feels more German than Mexican, but tasty regardless.

Can from a sampler pack poured into a simple glass. Pleasant gold color, a tad hazy, but with a substantial and persistent head. Nose is offers a faint graininess, nothing much more. Taste isn't bad. There's more hops in it than a standard light lager, more than in a helles as well, but it's not bitter by any means. That and a light grainy malt, and little hop flavor, make up the whole of it. Finish is dry. Nice creamy mouthfeel. Fairly average beer, but it wouldn't be an unpleasant picnic beer.

For a beer that's labeled a Mexican Style lager this beer has no characteristics of it. The hops stands out more than it should and it really has no similarities to any Mexican beer that I've tried but the beer doesn't taste bad at all. It's very drinkable but almost tastes like a Belgian ale rather than a Mexican lager. Kinda like Fat Tire or something. The hops has a floral taste and a bit of a tart finish. I am drinking out of the can so I can't rate it properly as far as smell and looks go and I'm probably not qualified to make a technical analysis on the appearance and smell of a beer. All I know is taste and the buzz I feel and that's what matters most in a beer. This beer has a great buzz to it and the can has some interesting things. Starbase Brewing aims to be the first brewery on Mars when we colonize it. They're located in Austin, Tx. Now that is a planet of its own. I'm gonna give this beer a 4.75 rating. It deserves the credit.

Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear light golden color with a small head of white foam. The head fades rather fast leaving a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is heaviest of a corn smell mixed with aromas of caramel and grain. Along with these aromas comes notes of wheat and a little bit of toast.
Taste – The taste begins with a crisp bready flavor mixed with a moderately strong grainy taste and some flavors of corn and caramel sweetness. Along with these flavors comes a very light hoppiness of an earthy nature. The taste remains constant throughout the sip, leaving one with a rather crisp and clean corn and grain taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is light and crisp with a higher level of carbonation. For the style and the tastes, the feel is great and makes for a nice refreshing sipper.
Overall – A rather nice and refreshing Mexican lager. Great for a warm summer day.
