The colour is black (110 EBC), the liquid is clear (I think). The four finger head is brown, compact and uneven, it leaves some lacing on the glass while it sinks down.
The smell got distinct alcohol flavours, roasted malts; it is quite sour and heavy. Some dried fruits, cedar wood and biscuits. Mild clean bitterness.
The taste is roasted/burned with smooth notes of dark chocolate and pumpernickel bread. Some sour flavours from the black malt. Medium to full body. The aftertaste got some warming alcohol, some bitter hops, and hints of caramel. It is quite dry, as the Irish stouts tend to be. There is not much depth in the aftertaste. The finish got smooth bitter flavours, roasted malts and a hint of wood.
The carbonation is medium strong; the bubbles short-lived and smooth. The liquid is thick but not sticky.
An uncomplicated export stout. Clean and dry. It’s OK.
