Poured from bottle into tulip 1 finger tan head recedes quickly, good lacing. Jet black in the glass. Getting very little roast on the nose, big licorice, could be my sinuses and the licorice is all that is cutting thru. Big licorice on the front end, roasted malt, not acrid (good job), cocoa in the middle along with some roasted coffee. Good mild bitterness on the end with a dry bitterness. Perhaps one of the better beers I have had from them.

Solid all around. Amazing, roasty, licorice, cocoa aroma. Flavor is rich and dare I say, robust. Mouthfeel is full and entirely pleasant. Only improvement would be to have head that sticks around in the glass. Not fizzy, but not persistent beyond the first sip. The best beer from the Aldi’s advent calendar yet, this is day 10.

From the bottle from the Aldi 2020 Advent Calendar, it pours a very dark brown/black with a nice long lasting light tan head. The nose gets some licorice and roasted malts, which follows in the mouth and not in a really good way.

330 ml bottle with a 28 August 2021 BB date stamp on the neck.
Pours essentially black and opaque with a modest beige head.
Black licorice and mace (the spice) dominate the flavor with a similar character in the aroma.
Smooth medium body with light carbonation but some unwelcome bite to it.
