Hot damn. What another great Texas surprise. Walked in on a Sunday afternoon while visiting friends in Boerne. The town was chillin’ on a hot day; most at a fun local market. Another brew pub had great staff, but place was kinda dead. So overall no expectations other than nice laid back day to catch a couple brews.
Friends had suggested I’d like Free Roam (“your kinda place”). Correct!!
Place was hoppin’! Lively, packed pub. Great tunes; nice beer centric decor in an already cool space. Tap list of their was limited but Wow! An expected light lager, IPA and Honey Blonde… accompanied by a Maple Barrel aged Imperial Amber, a massive Imp Stout… and probably the best Sour I’ve had in years. Think Jester King sour being Texas.. but reminded me more sitting at Sante Adarius or Side Project. That good.
People there were friendly, knowledgeable, fun… while extremely busy.
Then I meet Food Truck guy in parking lot out back; discusses details of his fare, then offers to whip up something and deliver it inside to my table. In this case a delicious Shrimp Etouffe smothering a huge side of rice. Really?!?! Oh yeah… that good.
Next time I hit San Antonio area… I’ll still catch my music at Gruene and Luckenbach, but will go out of way if need be and hit Free Roam again. Don’t miss it.
