A German Oktoberfest, brewed outside Bavaria. I cringe at Beck's Okto, roll my eyes at Warsteiner Okto, but I'm no big fan of their every day beers. OTOH, Kostritzer's beers have long been a favorite, so I have high hopes.
Brown bottle with a Best Before date of 01.07.10 (July 1st, 2010 for those of us on the other side of the pond).
A -- Not an Amber Märzen, but brewed in the deep clear golden style of the more modern Wies'n Fest style Märzen. Thick and sudsy off-white head that settles slowly.
S -- Bready malt with spicy hops back, vague DMS. Maybe a bit thin, but still good to style.
T -- Yum. Nice and bready malts up front in good German style, finishing with a slight hint of spicy noble hops. Aftertaste is a good balance of sweet, biscuity malt and dry, spicy hops. It walks that fine line between Helles and Maibock.
M -- Light medium body with a soft to crisp mouth-feel.
D -- Very good. Not sure what the ABV is, but you can bet that as smooth as it goes down -- it's gonna get'cha 'cause you're going to want more than one liter!
