Bottle from the brewery. Served in a Bellwoods snifter.
A - White foam settles to a near-complete cap, collar, and a few specks of lace. Attractive golden body with good clarity.
S - Juicy alright! Very tropical and melony, but the El Dorado is reined in enough to not smell like Jolly Ranchers. Fairly neutral malt imparts a touch of sugary sweetness. Notes of tropical fruits, berries, and a touch of pine. Perhaps a hint of alcohol in there as well; 8% is on the higher side for an IPA.
T - The taste is a bit more understated, with a heavier emphasis on the Mosaic hops, with some lemon, blueberry, and passion fruit notes. Malt is again of the neutral, bready persuasion. Alcohol is better hidden here.
M - Soft, creamy body with pleasant medium-low carbonation. No real heat considering the listed 8%. Dry, crisp, finish.
D - I've generally enjoyed Burdock's pale ales over their IPAs, but this one is closing the gap. Nice beer, although I wish it were closer to 6% for pragmatic reasons. Still, was pretty easy to crush a bottle with co-workers this afternoon.

500ml bottle bought at the bottleshop on the first day of availability. "Another aromatic juice-bomb?" asks the description on the website. Hops are Simcoe, Mosaic, El Dorado. Vermont Ale is the yeast.
Pours a somewhat cloudy yellow pale ale colour. Active carbonation. A half an inch or so of head that isn't retained long. Lots of lacing.
Fruity hop aromas: berries, citrus, apricot.
Bracingly bitter up front. Theres's some oniony Simcoe funk in addition to the Mosaic berries and El Dorado citrus and apricot I got on the nose. Some fruity yeast esters too.
Prickly carbonation. Lingering bitterness.
A solid American IPA that's firmly in the juicy "East Coast" camp. The hop profile is not exactly for me at the moment (strangely enough, I think I might be developing an aversion to Simcoe even though it's an element in some of my all-time favourite hoppy beers) but there's no doubt that a lot of thought went into the design and execution of this. I regret only having had version I and now V of Burdock's IPA, so I'll be sure to keep an eye open for the release of version VI.
