This ale is brewed to celebrate Joseph Holt, one of Manchester’s business pioneers, using Pioneer hops.

The colour is copper; the thin head is beige. The liquid is clear.

The smell is sour with notes of white vinegar, yeast, green apples. I found it fresh and a bit unusual.

The taste is bitter-sour. Fine flavours of fresh fruits; apples, gooseberries and green peppers. Some yeast and a mild balancing sweetness, herbs and hints of earthy minerals. The aftertaste is fruity and a bit bitter with mild notes of gooseberry jam.

The carbonation is very mild and soft, but at the same time very refreshing. The liquid is creamy.

I found this bitter a bit different and very pleasant.
