Served cool from 500ml bottle into straight pint glass.

L) Dark brown, definitely not black and definitely not opaque. Thin off-white bubbly head dissipates quickly to a film.

S) Nothing huge; there is no burnt / roasted malt odour, there is a bit of sweetness and even a bit of sourness. Hints of cold coffee.

T) Urrrf. Its a bit sour. There is a weak roasted malt flavour and a bit of bitterness in there. Certainly no sweetness as claimed on the bottle. Weirdly drinkable though! I will finish it.

F) LIght body and quite fizzy, there is a sourness there but no bitterness.

O) Don't know if I got a bad bottle or what, but the cap isn't compromised because it is fizzy. Can't recommend it based on this one. A real disappointment.

500ml bottle as a gift from the brewery shop:
Dark brown with a thumb-sized, bubbly head that is an off-white to light brown colour and holds for about a minute or so.

Roasted malts and a bit of oats in there initially, along with some sweetness and toffee. It smells quite lively on the nose and has some chocolate as well as hints of fruit and berries too.

Sweet malts and oats with more chocolate and caramel than was suggested by the aroma. Creamy tasting around the middle to end with some good hits of chocolate and toffee plus some fruits coming through. A nice beer but not one that seems overly stout like in its taste.

Light medium bodied but strong and very lively carbonation with a lot of fizz, particularly for the style but doesn't seem gassy, whilst somehow makes the beer an easy one to drink.

Not a bad beer at all and not your typical stout either, this one was definitely more lively although the usual mix of roasted malts and chocolate was present but there was also a nice, fruity taste lurking in the background.

Served in a half-pint glass in Scotland. From notes. Reviewed March 2011.

A: Quite dark red. (My friend says it looks like ox blood...Okay.) Clearish with a light head that fades before too long. Nice.

S: Creamy, but sharp. Chocolatey/bitterish malts. Nothing great.

T: WHAT. This is actually really great. Lots of coffee with a bit of buttery(ish) malt. Middle taste is a bit odd and light, but the aftertaste brings it back home with a lingering bitterness and surprising flash of fruits.

M: Thin and disappointing. No endurance.

O: Overall, great cask ale. On the dark and bitter side. I would have it again. Recommended.

On cask at Prince of Wales in Aberdeen, Scotland.

A: Pours a dark brown with some ruby highlights around the edges. A small bubbly tan head forms, and receds in a minute. Some lace is lefet behind.
S: Big toasted malt up front. Chocoalte, and toffee are very welcome. Lots of dark fruits as well. Plums, raisins, even cherries.
T: Follows the nose, though the toasted malt is even better. Big chocolate and toffee. The dark fruit flavor is just huge as well. Plums, cherries, and raisins.
M/D: A medium body and carbonation. Creamy and smooth. So easy to drink. Not a session beer, but I can enjoy one after another with ease.

This is a very interesting stout. Dark fruits are big and give this more depth than the normal stout that is just lots of roast. I really enjoyed it, and something I would highly recommend.
