Six different malts in the mash lend complexity to this smooth lager. Balanced, and delicately hopped with Czech Saaz. Notes of chocolate, dark toast, and honey.

Look: It pours very dark brown with a tan head. It has low head retention.
Smell: It has roasted and coffee aromas up front with some earthly touches in support.
Taste: It has solid coffee flavors up front with some roast in support. There are spicy touches well into the background.
Feel: It has a medium body with a medium low bitter aftertaste.
Overall: A simple flavored, but flavorful and easy drinking beer.

This one builds a very dark, black walnut head that reaches two inches and forms a long-lasting froth. Below is a very clear, dark brown beer with auburn highlights. Wide swaths of lacing form a curtain in some places and patches in others.
The aroma is rich with deep roasted malt that has a sweet edge. Fresh baked whole wheat bread leads to toasted cashews, baker's chocolate, and eventually black coffee. Unfortunately, there is a slight hint of soap as well.
The Laura Pilsner glass presents roasted malt against sharp bitterness. This is followed by burnt malt, burnt nuts, and baker's chocolate. There is little to no sweetness. Mild Saaz hops come out for balance as it warms. The finish is strong and occupies the cheeks and back of the throat.
It has a medium body with a texture similar to oily cotton. Fine carbonation fades quickly with each sip. Alcohol is more pronounced than expected in this dry and mildly astringent Lager.
Depth of Field is a decent drinking beer that is full of flavor and aroma. I suspect it would be better if paired with pretzels or salty tortilla chips. I enjoyed it with some Stilton.
