On draught at the brewery. Served in a mug. It's a pretty pour: clear, ruby red with more than a finger of fluffy, light khaki-colored head and lots of soapy lacing inside the glass. The smell includes sweet dark bread, caramel, nuts, and earthy malt. Its taste is not as sweet as the nose would indicate and offers well-toasted bread, nutty char, peppercorn, and a hint of spice. It is dry with a clean, slightly bitter, finish. This ale is well-bodied with pleasant carbonation, and is sessionable at 5.5% ABV. Overall, I am a sucker for this style and Absentimental didn't disappoint. It is well-crafted and enjoyable. If you are looking for a sweeter example of an Amber Ale, then you might find Absentimental a bit dry and bitter. But it's right in my wheelhouse.
