With Anchor Steam gone, this may be the finest "steam beer" made in America. Very flavorful, before finishing with gracefull restraint. Excellent and worth seeking out.

It pours out a gorgeous medium amber color, crystal clear with plenty of carbonation. A thick, off white head covers the amber body and thins out in about a minute into a thin layer of bubbles.
The aroma is pleasant, mild malts with a touch of brown sugar and some herbal notes.
The malts are strong up front, very pleasant and well balanced with an herbal and sugary flavor as it hits the sides and back of your mouth. Just a hint of bitterness in the aftertaste.
This is a medium to light bodied beer that tastes great and is easy to drink.

Not what I'd typically expect of a lager, this one was auburn to brown in the glass and slightly hazy. But then I noticed it was actually listed as a California common or steam beer, which makes a bit more sense.
Aroma and taste were surprisingly malty, almost like a schwartzbier or bock. I haven't really had enough of the Cali common style to say whether it's typical of the style. Pretty tasty nonetheless, and another hit from Second Pitch.
