Picked up a growler at the Henrietta MacGregor's. Poured into an American pint glass. Very dark brown with a very slight hint of red. Great head to start and keeps a good amount of lacing throughout the beer. Upon smelling you can tell this is going to be a malty beer (of course it is, its a porter) It has hints of roasted malt in it. Taste is very good. Roasted malt as the nose told earlier. Very creamy in the mouth, the way a good porter is supposed to be. I would be happy drinking this all night. And the price is amazing, $2 pints before 7 on weekdays, and only about $8 a growler if you've already paid deposit. I will definitely be drinking this again.

This porter pours a deep carob brown, with slight brownish-red highlights around the edges. There is a nice head on top, but this quickly fades down to a much smaller one, very common for IBC beers. Besides that, good stuff here.

Smell is a nice deep roastiness, dry in character, and with more carob notes.

Taste explains how this is the completion of Ithaca's signature porter/brown ale/Stout trifecta. There are certainly many notes of nuttiness, but it is drier in character than the hazelnut-like notes of their Nut Brown. Also, there are hints of the great roastiness of their Anniversary Stout in here, without overwhelming the other tastes. Their distinctive yeast comes through as well, and as always. There is more of a hop character in this beer than in the other two as well, and there is a very tight, clean finish.

Mouthfeel fits the style very well, always a strength of IBC beers.

Drinkability is very good, a bit higher than the stout, and a bit lower than the Nut Brown.

The closest other porter I can think of to this, is Smuttynose's Robust Porter, but this is better, IMO.

Sorry to do such a comparative review, but the similarities must be noted! Another excellent IBC offering.

MacGregor's Porter is a great porter served at MacGregor'sTap room i Rochester, MY. It has a dark brown colour with a thin head that leaves a nice lace. The smell is warm and inviting with slight hints of choclate and malt. The taste is also very malty with chocolate accents. It went down very smooth. Faster than I wanted it to. I will drink this again and often.

This is the first time I had the Ithaca Porter, which was a hard decision because they had southern tier porter on tap also. But I decided to try something different and I'm glad I did. This beer when served was a deep dark brown with a minimal head. The head laced the glass thorough the session. The smell roasted, and deep. The taste like the smell roasted and smooth, not to sweet and I really didn’t detect any bitterness in this at all. The mouthfeel is smooth lightly carbonated and goes down easy. Defiantly a drinkable beer and recommended for the porter fan. I’m surprised more people haven’t reviewed this brew. Must get the word out.
