I always like the beers coming from Ithaca B.C., even when they are not in a style that I generally reach for & in a Bottle, to boot! Oh, well, yesterday was my 54th birthday + I really enjoyed the previous blueberry-infused beer, so here goes nothing.
From the Bottle: "Berliner Style Weisse Ale Brewed w/Blueberry"; "The Spirit of the Finger Lakes".
I Pop!ped the cap & started a very slow, gentle pour since it has had a little while of sitting both on the shelf & in my fridge so there may be some lees on the punt. My initial pour did not produce much in the way of head, so I employed an in-glass swirl to raise a brief two fingers of fizzy, foamy, rocky, pinkish head with very low retention, quickly fizzing away like it was pop. Color was a rose-pinkish Amber (SRM = N/A) with NE-quality clarity. Nose had the characteristic tartness of Berliner Weisse with an easily-perceived blueberry presence. It was precisely this last that led me to follow up yesterday's Super American Sparkler, which also featured blueberry. Mmm. Mouthfeel was thin & watery, but about on par for the style. The taste was actually more pleasant than I generally find with Berliner Weisses since the blueberry flavor worked really well with the Honey malt, giving it a graham cracker-like sweetness that melded well with the blueberry purée. The end result was a liquefied slightly-tart blueberry pie! Wow. Finish was semi-dry, but I would not argue with semi-sweet. YMMV.
