Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is full of chocolate, little else. Taste has lots of dark roasted malts, chocolate is present but it's not sweet, very light hops. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is an enjoyable beer.

I found this discounted 12oz. bottle in a MA package store. I like most Ithaca beers and have never seen this before. I suspect it is "old" but less than I year and dark beers hold up well usually so worth $2 for sure.
Looks like a porter - dark chocolate brown that just barely translucent when held in front of light. A low, tan head subsides quickly leaving no lace in it's tracks.
Aroma of cocoa, chocolate malt and dark grain and light fruity esters. Some alcohol notes waft in which is kinda weird for a 5.5 ale and there are some pasty, tinny oxidation notes. I think maybe this bottle had a tough life.
Flavors of more chocolate - mild and not candy bar like but subtle, distinct cocoa character that just adds to the Porter base. It's not a Cocoa Porter it's what the label says it is ; Porter brewed with cocoa nibs.
Hops play a minor role here but just enough to lend a tangy bite on the tongue and back of the throat on the finish.
The body is a bit light but still coats the mouth with tasty lightly smoked choco-malty flavors.
A solid Brown Porter with a cocoa kicker.

Dark pour. Sweet aroma. Doesn't taste as sweet. More bitter. Slight malt finish. Tastes flat. Luckily this is a fourth quarter beer and not a first quarter.
