This Biere de Garde is paradoxically malty and dry; a farmhouse ale that shows an earthy, spicy character, with hints of acidity and oak from the barrel-aged portion of the blend.

Draft at the brewery in a short chalice. The beer is a deep amber in color with some purplish hues and an off-white head that eventually recedes. An underlying maltiness pervades the beer - but it’s been fully fermented and dried out into something like fruit skin. The nose is particularly funky, providing a sometimes pungent basement cheese-mold alongside spicy, tart notes of oak. The flavor is similar - not quite as funked out, but brett makes a strong mark, with lots of dry oak in the finish. Hay and flirting complexities. Moderate but crisp and dry in body, carbonation low and delicate. Another top notch pour from F&M - thoroughly enjoyed.
