Our favourite little Kolsch returns! This batch features premium German malts and Saphir and Perle hops. Most of us here at F&M don’t show our emotions very much, but please know we have a lot of inner excitement when it comes to Kolsch.

This one has notes of artisan crackers, lemon peel and herbs, homemade strudel, and elegantly honest beer flavors.

Mostly clear golden body with a full cream colored head, thick lacing. Aromas of kolsch yeast, grassy hops, lemon zest, with honey. Tastes of lemon, earthy malt, kolsch yeast, and honey dipped grain. Feel is light with mild hops and grains, slightly pale yet bright. Nice new world kolsch

Pours a bright & effervescent gold with 2+ fingers of pearl colored head. Stays effervescent throughout, great head retention & lacing

S: Bready, a little grassy, nose picks up as this warms up

T: Follows the nose, some doughy notes, limes, dryness & floral hops. more grassyness, dryness & floral hops as this beer warms up, some pear notes & bready sweetness as well. Finishes dry with hints of lime, breadyness, plenty of grassiness

MF: Medium body, lively carbonation

Fairly easy to drink, but a little drier than I am used to for the style, minor markdowns

This one pours a golden yellow color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This smells slightly doughy, with breadiness, and some lightly grassy hops.

This smells crackery and doughy, with some light herbal and hop spice, lemon peel, and a touch of orange.

This feels pretty well spot on for the style, with a really nice balance between herbal spice and bready, crackery malt. It’s really just, beer-like, in the best way, with a super crisp and clean flavor to it.

This is light bodied, smooth and crisp, with a great drinkability.

I have grown to love this brewery recently.

Pours with a nice big 3" head into a Stange, mostly clear straw yellow with huge bubbles of rising carbonation. Nose is very inviting - lemon, cut grass, doughiness, lemon oils. Taste follows - it has a lemon bite without the sourness, a lot of grass and hay, but followed by fresh dough. There some moderate hop bite, but nothing aggressive. Mouthfeel is super crisp and refreshing. This is a very well made Kölsch and I totally lucked out picking it up as a random buy.

A pretty liking beer that initially has a little haze but a fluffy, sticky white head. The head isn’t producing much aromas up front. A light plus beer with a bit aggressive carbonation brings a n added bite to perceived pepperiness- - black and green. The latter flavor turns a little grassy in the linger. Not much bread or fruit, this is a fairly dry beer with a bitter push to my taste buds.

16oz can purchased from the fridge as a single for $4.50. No canned on date; the label says "Canned April 2022" so since it's early August let's call this ~4 months old. (The label says 4.5% ABV, but the website and this site say 4.7% so let's go with 4.7%).

Look: Pours a full golden color with a super faint chill haze. This is essentially clear beer. There was a nice pinky finger of white head, small bubbles, that slowly reduced to just about noting.

Smell: It smells really good, and it's also hard to describe. Up front, I get like a yeasty, doughy, biscuity malt note along with notes of white grape must and other fruity notes including lychee. Other note of granny smith apple skins and both a grassy and slightly musty aroma that totally works. It has a very pleasant, subtle, perfumy nose. On the back end after swirling, there is a subtle vegetal/green bell pepper note. Smells delicious.

Taste: This is really nice. Super crushable and delicious. Up front, it has that nice biscuity malt with a touch of acidity and spice. Then I get these really delicate, floral flavors of jasmine and very focused flavors of white grape, lychee, and green apple that gradually lead to the crisp finish. The finish is mildly bitter and grassy with peppery and green tea notes and has a lingering, drying effect on the back on the palate. The front and sides of the palate are unaffected. This is a nice crusher!

Feel: The carbonation is perfect for this type of beer. The mouthfeel is light, as it should be, but far from watery. I would actually say that because the malt is so fully developed here that this would be probably closer to a light to medium bodied. The finish is crisp and clean.

Overall: I haven't had so many Kolsch beers, but this one may be the best that I have had. It's so delicious - very flavorful and also shows a lot of control, focus, and nuance. I could drink this all day! Forest & Main is super impressive. I would suggest pairing this beer with sushi.

Pours a slightly hazy light golden color with plenty of dense, white head that showed excellent retention and lacing. Aroma is various grains with some lemon notes mixed in. Taste follows. Cracker, light lemon with not a lot of hops showing up. Well carbonated, very clean drinking, and very easy going down. Good beer.

Nice hazy straw color with a white head, this beer features floral hop aromas with a touch of lemon and a nice, grainy malt note.

The lemon flavors forward on the taste and perfect to lead this beer, with a grainy cereal flavor that is substantial at the back of the palate, and a delicious balance to the lemon flavor.

Crisp, dry mouthfeel works well for this beer that I could sit and drink for days. Really good stuff, IMHO.

Thanks to Roy_Hobbs for this one, from one of his multiple assaults during NBS BIF #15. 16oz can (canned April 2022. When in April? Who the fuck knows?) poured into 14oz teku. poured a lightly hazy medium yellow color with an inch of white head that had good retention and lacing.

The aroma was the expected light grain and soft hops of the style.

Similar on the tongue, good earthy grains, floral and lightly spicy hops.

The body was light and smooth, with a touch of hop bite at the back, and had a semi-dry finish.

Drinkability was good, a nice, easy quaff that could be repeated drink.

Overall, a solid take on the style. Worth a shot if you see it.
