16oz can purchased from the fridge as a single for approximately $4.50. No canned on date; this is currently offered as Beer To Go directly from Forest & Main, so I think that it is pretty fresh.
Look: Pours a moderately hazy golden yellowish color. I can see light pass through so it's not opaque, but it's very hard to discern anything on the other side. There was a fluffy, slightly rocky white head on the pour. A thin layer remains with evidence of nice lacing.
Smell: Very nice - dank, fruity notes of gooseberry, grapefruit, passion fruit, white grape, etc. I love these types of aromas, reminds me of a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Very green and grassy as well, with lots of green bell pepper on the finish.
Taste: The flavor follows the nose. It's very drinkable and refreshing. The finish is not very bitter - for a NEIPA, it's very crisp and clean with a bit of bitterness, pine resin, and pith that trails off at a moderate pace. Apart from the relatively soft mouthfeel and the moderate bitterness, this almost has a flavor profile that is more similar to a West Coast IPA to me than that of a NEIPA.
Feel: It has a softy, pillowy mouthfeel. For a 6.3% NEIPA, it's a bit lighter in mouthfeel than many others (not in a bad way). I would say that this is on the lighter side of medium bodied.
Overall: A very enjoyable hazy IPA. From my perspective, it's hard to go wrong with Nelson Sauvin, Motueka, & Rakau....however, there must be plenty of brewers who attempt such a combination and do not succeed. This reminds me a bit of a hazy version of Half Acre Vallejo - one of my favorites - with the addition of Motueka, Rakau, and malted wheat. Well done again, F&M!
From the can/website:
Hopped with Nelson Sauvin, Motueka, & Rakau.
We brewed this purpy with German barley and malted wheat and hopped it with bright satchels of Nelson Sauvin, Motueka, and Rakau. You’d be forgiven for confusing this for a cup of fruit juice, something about those New Zealand hops just brings such bright clean fruit to the party.
We’re getting notes of fruit juice, as mentioned, popular IPAs, sweet canteloup, ripe mango, soft and cool peach Danish, and some gentle lemon meringue.
