Here's one more example of how too much wheat in the wort is detrimental to an IPA styled beer. A gentle pour to empty a pint can into a clear glass liter mug gets ugly. What's ugly is the seemingly ever expanding stark white foam on top of the brew. Typically, what follows is sparse and irregular recession and poor glass lacing. Of course it happens here, although the dull dark copper color beneath the foam mitigated the mess above, somewhat.. The aroma is moderately sweet, like caramel can smell. Behind that are detected some vague starch combination, maybe even including some barley malt and some yeast. Initial taste is OK, but quickly another gift wheat gives an ale is a thin body, just like this one. This isn't too sweet, but it becomes obvious that what sweetness is there helped with the relatively pleasant introduction. The finish is probably its best feature, as it's dryly bitter, yet in an earthy way. So, points for the taste transition from caramel like sweet to strongly brewed unsweetened tea bitter. Another plus is the modest amount of alcohol to the taste. Overall, this is good for an occasional try, especially when bitter is more appealing than body. Despite the flaws, it's a recommended try for locals who support locals.
