It was a displeasing pour to empty the contents of a pint can into a clear glass liter mug. A ridiculous amount of foam was generated and then the mess receded unevenly and unattractively. The colors in the glass don't make any amends. The foam is a discolored off-white and the liquid below dull dirty blond approaching murky. There's a sweet starchy aroma that isn't close to being as agreeable as a brew rich in barley malt. What little hops that can be detected are muddled and bland. It tastes like eating a biscuit and chasing it with unsweetened tea. That's really not as terrible as it may sound, but neither is it an ideal taste profile for an American IPA. The oat/wheat body is light and at least it's not sticky. It's also characterless. Even to the palate, the hops are muddled and bland. Maybe the Nelson Sauvin and Chinook hops don't pair well with all that non-barley malt, or maybe it's just that beers that shortchange the barley malt aren't usually very tasty. Don't consider it glass lacing, but there's some irregular residue left by the foam. Some of it lasted to finish and the hop taste improved with accumulation. Again, it's not attractive. This poured disappointingly and never fully recovered.
