T'was a good straight pour that emptied a pint can into a clear glass liter mug. There was some stark white foam involved, but it wasn't excessive. Obviously, this is an oated hazy, as the dirty blond liquid is very opaque, almost murky. There are some softened hops to the nose, but they're muddled by the starchy backbone. The hops taste mildly citrusy up front and roll toward the finish a bit more piney. Although it's sweet enough, there's no real taste counterbalance for the hops. So, a mildly sharp, yet muted hop taste is about all you get here. Oats in IPAs certainly soften the hop bite and usually contribute positively toward the mouthfeel, but they don't add much to the taste. In this case, the oats do contribute nicely to the feel of the ale, as it's body is ideal. There's no chalkiness or stickiness detected, sometimes an undesirable accompaniment to brews with oats. Overall, it's not bad. It brings just enough hops in a smooth delivery and basically that's the purpose of this style.
