Crown and Cane - 4.8% Bitter, Collaboration with The Dandelion. We had some of the gang from @TheDandelionPub over to brew a classic British-style Bitter. We mashed in some Golden Promise, Crystal, and Amber malts; hopped it with Bramling Cross and Challenger; and fermented it with our favourite top cropping British yeast. It pours a brilliant autumn honey color; and has those moreish notes of perfectly steeped blackberry leaf tea, clean wet oak, mild toffee, an Atlantic coastal minerality, an appropriate bitterness, and maybe a pecan pie in the oven.

on cask at the F&M Fishtown location, in tankard
clear golden in color, with white head. honey like malt flavor, earthy hop balance, depth of flavor but balanced and easy drinking. great feel from the cask conditioning.

A nice pour emptied an entire pint can into a clear glass liter mug. There wasn't much of an off-white head produced and there was no subsequent glass lacing. But, the liquid is pleasantly bronze-amber, bright and relatively translucent. Sweet malt, moderately roasted, dominates the pleasant aroma. There's a delightful earthiness to the malt/hop combination that's true of very good English Bitters. The malt is very pronounced, yet not too sweet. The hops are obvious, yet not too bitter. At its best, this style is remarkably flavorful, without being overly hoppy, overly sweet, nor overly alcoholic. It drinks lightly, but not thinly. Absolutely a standout version, this would likely even have the locals in County Kent nodding in approval. If you're not familiar with English Bitters, this might be a good one to start with. The good news is, it's excellent. The bad is, it might be hard to ever find another in its class.
