Fallen Hero - 12.5% Barrel Aged Barley Wine
Brewed with Maris Otter and Crystal malt; hopped with British and American hops; fermented with our British yeast; and aged in freshly emptied bourbon and apple brandy barrels for 26 - 39 months. Pours a beautiful mahogany with a wispy khaki head and has decadent notes of Turkish figs, fermented raisins, graham cracker with toasted marshmallow, spicy bourbon, vanilla, rich malty Maris Otter, some kind of boozey caramel cake, maturity, and a sneaky abv that only the buzzing of your gums reveals.

Received a 500 ml bottle from @jzeilinger 5-23-26. Bottled April 2026; consumed 5-29-26. Cold stored since acquisition. Very excited for the barleywine opportunity, Jeff!
Beer poured dark brown with a nice off-white head that has a ring of head hanging on post pour.
Nose is light and dark fruits, wood, and booze.
Taste has notes of fig and raisins from the malt base while the bourbon barrel lends a major wood theme. Post sip aspirations give me a nice apple brandy sweetness, but the wood keeps the show nicely balanced.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a very nice smoothness with each sip.
Overall, given how wood forward this is, this is a rare time that i would recommend cellar rest for several years to see how things develop. Great first foray into F&M!
