On tap at the Bier Stein the other day. According to the menu there, this is blend of 2012 imagine and 2013 Super Nebula, with (sour) cherry juice blended in.
The beer pours a blackish brown color with excellent head retention and considerable lacing. The beer smells impressive as well, as I get considerable espressso, dark chocolate, vanilla and light sour cherry. The SN seems to dominate the nose for the most part in this beer, though the barrel aging didn't seem quite as prominent as what one encounters in SN. The flavor proifle replicates the nose pretty closely, except the sour cherry is much more prominent, which adds to the complexity in this beer. There's some grittiness in the finish as well, which along with the sour cherry, tends to counter and balance the modest sweetness in this beer very nicely. Mouthfeel is fairly full, though the sour cherry component seemed to thin out the mouthfeel a bit. Alcohol is very well integrated into the flavor profile, and the finish was quite long. While you can tell this is a big beer (obviously), I would not have guessed it was 13% abv.
An impressive effort from Block 15, though for my money, I still prefer the straight SN (Super Nebula) to this beer.
