16oz can

Pours nearly two fingers of off-white head into my Nonic, perfectly hitting the rim. Head is a little fizzy, and a large portion fades quickly, leaving behind a nice film though. Initial lacing looks quite nice. Body is a reddish orange, crystal clear, with a few bubbles coming up. Looks pretty decent so far.

Nose is quite good. Classic European malt and yeast characteristics, bread, caramel, honey, mild toffee, light notes of stone fruit, fruit cake. While certainly a dark beer, it seems a little dry, bitter, and maybe even mineral, definitely a lager as well. Nose develops pretty quickly with time, and there is quite a bit going on by the end. Really nice.

Flavor hits first and foremost with substantial malt, Marris Otter comes to mind, but it’s not overly cloying. Maybe a touch of caramel. Not particularly complex at all, most of the aromas don’t come through to the flavor. Still, this is a full flavor and very clean. Drinks close to an Oktoberfest, but maybe slightly sweeter and less bready. Good.

Carbonation is about medium. Body is light-ish. Sweetness is moderate, clean for the most part, and a touch of dryness shows up in the finish. Bitterness is pretty low, hits for a nano second at the end. Pretty appropriate mouthfeel.

Drinkability is solid, aforementioned it’s not cloying, and it’s pretty tasty.

Appearance turned out poor, pretty much zero lacing, and the head completely disappeared.

Overall a very straight forward beer. Nothing fancy, which is ok, but I also wouldn’t mind a little more action.

Look: A beautiful clear amber in color with a frothy off-white head that settles to a lid up top and leaving great lacing on the glass
Aroma: Dried fruit notes – cherry, red apple, and prune plums, a little melanoidin, freshly baked bread, some earthiness, and raw bread dough
Taste: Bread, dough, toffee, and dried fruit kick things off while some melanoidin and light earthiness hover in the backdrop and slowly filter in. Bread and fruit notes linger as the rest start to fade and closes with a fruity and slightly earthy finish
Mouthfeel: Full but lighter than the ABV or taste would lead me to think, very clean throughout, medium-high carbonation, and a soft but crisp finish
Overall: This is tasty stuff. I’d have a hard time tying this to any specific lager style as it borrows aspects from a couple in my opinion; bread and doughy notes of a Vienna without the floral aspects and toffee and dried fruit of a bock, though I get much different dried fruit in this than the dark fruits of a bock or doppel. Regardless, it all comes together well and is delicious to boot. Recommended

Can says Winter Lager, style is Vienna Lager. Fresh. From New Seasons in Vancouver. A very pretty pour, stunningly clear, brilliant amber. Good nose of malt, fruity hops and biscuit-y yeast. Malty and well balanced hop profile. Refreshing and just the ticket on a rainy evening. We'd recommend seeking this out.

16 oz can purchased from Lifesource Natural Grocers in Salem OR
$4
Pours a nice amber honey colour, clear , with a lovely thick and creamy beige head,
Nose is of dark wild honey, brown bread toast and light caramel.
Taste is well malty but still reasonably balanced..honey again and some dried fruit tones.
Mouth feel is medium with medium carbonation..slight sweet ending.
A good Winter Lager..i was pleased that i was not the first because i had no idea which category this belonged to. I would say Bock but Vienna is fine too.
