First had: on tap at their brewpub

Poured a darker amber color with a huge brownish head. Aroma was nutty, with dark sugars and malts, some yeasty funk and spice. Tasty, but a bit disappointing actually. Notes of caramel malts, banana esters, clove, and traces of vanilla, brown sugar, and oak. Medium-bodied and a bit chewy. Nice overall, but not one of Block 15's highlights.

On-tap at Block 15 brewery. Poured into a tulip glass. Reviewed from notes.

A - Pours a dark, slightly opaque orange with a two-finger frothy head. Head dissipates after a minute or two. Some solid streaks of lacing.

S - Familiar Belgian yeast qualities. Fruity esters, candi sugar and wet hay. Hints of perfume linger about. Slight pepper/spice hangs in the background.

T - Sweet malt character, fruit esters and candi sugar give this beer a rich, fruity flavor. Some spicy phenols/cloves could be detected.

M - Medium bodied with lively carbonation that pricks the tongue. A little bit of alcohol warmth.

O - An average dubbel. It's good but nothing special. Everything is there; it just doesn't come together to create something great. It's worth a try though. I just don't see myself seeking this one out again.

On tap at Bailey's during their killer beer fest.

The beer pours a tawny brown honey color with litterally no head or lacing. The nose on this beer confirms what I suspected from the appearance; this beer has seen some serious bourbon barrel aging. Although the appearace of this beer is nothing to write home about, any thought that I might be trying something ordinairy quickly evaporated when I took one sniff. Wow! Sweet mother marie! I get candy corn, brown sugar, chocolate, vanilla, caramel apple and pecan pie, all wrapped up in a sweet bourbon package. This smells just terrific. The flavors on the palate generallyh replicate the nose, except they're not as intense and the brown sugar and chocolate seem to dominate the flavor profile. This beer seems to be completely still, as I don't pick up any carbonation. However, mouthfeel is soft, long and very smooth, and drinkability is good. The beer is a bit on the sweet side, but not abnormally so for the style. The beer finishes very smoothly, with an oaky, almost bacony wisp of flavor at the end.

This is a very impressive, very rich tasting beer.
