Clear yellow amber with adequate foam in the Brigand chalice. Some interesting aromatics with the coriander in evidence and lemon in the nose. Some malty cereal taste with a touch of leafy hops. This is quite light and just fizzy enough. Not overly flavored like a lot of Witbiers. This is more of a lightly hopped Lager with essentially not Belgian yeasty taste. Brewed with Nectaron and Wakatu hops. This is a year old, dated 04/26/22. From the 16 oz can.

dry hopped wit with some southern hemisphere varietals, done with de garde and foreland, pretty heady trio on this. i thought it would have a little more going on with the yeast, more funk, rustic character, monastic nuance, even brett given the breweries involved, but its a little plain and samey on the ferment, could just be a classic cultured wit strain. nothing at all wrong with the ferment, just not what it could be from these guys, more traditional in this respect than anticipated, the innovation lies in the hopping. this is golden in the glass with an airy belgian looking white head that lasts, nice pour. the nose is estery, pear and clove and banana, a little tropical too, then the hops, which jump right into ripe peach and white wine, slightly herbal but not bitter at all, wheaty underneath it all, and very fresh. the new zealand hops are cool in the flavor too, lemongrass, coconut, canned pineapple, orange candy, mango, more white wine, dried apricot, lots to them, and all real compatible with the yeast, about equally pronounced through most of this. lighter medium body but some creaminess to the feel from the wheat and the tiny bubbles, rushing and excited feeling on the palate. pretty darn hop forward overall, but never bitter. this is modern and innovative but still very true to style, a hard thing to do with one of these. neat white pepper notes as it warms, pleasant late summer sipper here, even if its not funky or intriguing on the yeast side...

Look: Slightly cloudy medium to dark yellow with a silky head that forms quickly and retains well, slowly pulling away and leaving a screen of lacing behind
Aroma: Dried orange peel, coriander, wheat bread, a vegetal/spice note that I can’t nail down, white grapes, light honeydew melon, nectarines, and yeast
Taste: Apparent but subtle nectarine and melon slowly build to kick it off before coriander, orange peel, and wheat bread go full boar ahead. White table grapes and the spice/vegetal note shine once the traditional Witbier notes wane and throughout melon and nectarine are present. Closes with fruity yeast, wheat, and nectarines
Mouthfeel: Full but light feeling, soft throughout, medium-high carbonation, and silky soft on the finish
Overall: This is good stuff and very unique as well. Between the style itself and the three brewers involved, this purchase was a no-brainer and it is not only tasty and refreshing, but also not at all a typical Belgian Wit in what I feel is a good way. The unique hops lend an interesting melon, nectarine, and vegetal component to a great base that meshes nicely and creates a unique Witbier experience that was and is quite enjoyable. Adventurous and into Wits? Try this one out if you can

16oz can

Pours a finger of fluffy white head into my wheat glass. Retention is pretty nice, with half of the head remaining after a few minutes. Initial lacing looks very solid. Body is a slightly cloudy straw yellow, with a hefty amount of bubbles coming up. Looks quite nice so far.

Nose is mostly just very soft and fluffy, with a bready backbone, and some faint citrus. Smells nice, but doesn't smell all that dry hopped, or all that Wit-like. Has potential though.

Flavor is also pretty mild. Mild lemon, some coriander in the finish. Definitely a lighter Wit, though it's still pleasant.

Any sweetness is pretty imperceptible - not bone dry, but definitely dry. Bitterness is low. Carbonation is on the higher end. Body is light, crisp, and very smooth - probably the beers best characteristic, and what's holding it in "good" territory. Overall a pretty good mouthfeel.

Drinkability is great.

Appearance turned out very nice. A small head lasted all the way down, and the lacing was thick.

Overall this is good, but still somewhat lacking in flavor. The mouthfeel does a lot of work, but it can only do so much.

Can from Market of Choice.

A mildly hazy orange with a dense white head with good retention and lacing. The nose is a tasteful blend of candied orange peel, coriander, yeast esters. The hops add a light tropical fruit note that complements the citrus. The palate opens crisp and cracker like with a nice wheat note on which orange peel and coriander are carried. Drying, a little watery on the mid-palate. Nice fruity, spicy yeast esters. Drying, refreshing finish. Quite tasty.
