Poured into a Reuben's Brew pint glass. Pours a dark reddish orange with a fine, two finger light khaki head with great retention and thick lacing; looks nice. Aroma of dark, lightly toasted malt, citrus and grassy hops, dry caramel, light nuts. Flavor is lightly toasted biscuit malt, grassy and lightly citrus hops, lemon, grassy hay, dry caramel and light mixed nuts. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A fine dark lager that combines the character of classic dark lagers from Mexico with some brighter north of the border hops. The dark lagers from Mexico, like Bohemia, are likely to have been the first beers with deeper malt character I had in my early days of commercial light lagers. Luna Oscura is a nice homage to those classics, but with the advantage of freshness. I've hoped to run across another Bohemia some day, but not available around here and this will have to suffice. We’re starting to see a lot of lagers inspired by Mexican brews, from light to dark and it seems interesting that instead of calling them as European (admittedly the inspiration of the most the Mexican standards they are are labeled for the country that made them famous in the states. Nicely done, I'll get this one again.
