Look: Pitch black on the pour and in the glass with a subtle tan head that rises slightly and quickly settles to a film, leaving nice lacing behind
Aroma: Roast, light chocolate, toffee, fresh baked brown bread, lightly toasted tree nuts, and some earthy notes
Taste: Opens up with a strong hit of both roast and earthiness that caught me off guard as they’re stronger and harsher than the nose let on to. Chocolate follows and mellows things out as bready and nutty notes pop in and out as well before closing like it started – with roast and earthiness. Once the beer warms, the harshness of the roast and earthy notes significantly lessens
Mouthfeel: Full but light, clean, medium carbonation, and clean and crisp on the finish with some dry-like tendencies due to the roast/earthy finish
Overall: I dig it. I love what these folks do across the board but I missed out on this last year so actively hunted it this year and it’s good. It has a good mix of flavors/aromas going on and packs a lot into a nice overall package. Just a heads up, let it warm some to take a little of that harsh edge off

Creamy, tan head. Very dark and clear auburn, with a little chestnut tint, in appearance. Slightly sweet, wood tinged, caramel aroma. Balanced, caramel, wood and medium heavy, caramelized barley malt flavors.

16oz can, roughly 3 months old
Pours over a finger of brown head into my Nonic glass. Retention is average and the head mostly fades within a couple minutes. Lacing is decent. Body is pitch black. Looks fine.
Nose has some roast, also a little earthy and woody. Toffee/nutty comes out with time. There is a very prominent mineral character that dominates at times, smells somewhat dry. While this is somewhat complex, it’s a very subtle nose, and definitely not jumping out of the glass at me.
Flavor certainly hits bigger, but the individual flavors still seem difficult to pull out. Some toffee, really not all that roasty, maybe some faint caramel. I can’t say that it tastes like all that much other than “malty”.
Carbonation is medium-low. Body is medium-light. It’s slightly on the sweeter side, which is unusual for this kind of lager. Bitterness is somewhat low. I don’t mind the mouthfeel in a vacuum, but it’s a little off for the style.
Drinkability is pretty nice.
Overall a nice beer, but lacking some umph, and a little off-style in some areas.

Pours very deep and dark brown with a great light brown head; beautiful shade of brown, very creamy looking...nice thin little film lingers for the duration.
The nose is a slightly spiced; somewhat licorice like; dark bread, light unsweetened chocolate in the foreground as it warms.
The taste confirms the dark bread as well as a minor licorice like spice to it; this shows in the finish for me, some very light darker chocolate notes mixed in the middle.
Light to medium body, the mouthfeel is full but incredibly smooth and almost creamy in nature, dry and clean with a lingering little bit of bitterness.
This beer was very enjoyable to drink for me, well balanced and incredibly smooth on the palette, I enjoyed the little bitterness it has. Give it a try.

Poured into a Reuben's Brew pint glass. Pours a very dark reddish mahogany brown with little light transmission in the glass and a one finger khaki head with great retention and nice lacing. Aroma of mild toasted malt, hints of cocoa and caramel, some mineral. Flavor is lightly toasted malt, cocoa, light coffee, hints of citrus and light grassy hop bitterness. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. Lots of these Czech dark lagers popping up and I'm glad to see them as a dark malt fan. The flavors seem to range from a tame schwarzbier to almost porter in flavor depth in the domestic versions. This one is in the mellower end of the spectrum. There are good dark malt with some toast, but not quite as smokey as a schwarzbier. Pleasant cocoa and coffee, but reserved in flavor. Well balanced and easy to drink, this would be an excellent choice for pairing with food that calls for a dark beer; good flavor, but not intense enough to interfere with food flavors. I'm enjoying trying this previously uncommon style that has a lot of domestic interpretations. This seems close to the imported ones.
